What Makes Invisalign Different Than Other Orthodontics?
Although all orthodontic treatments straighten your smile, Invisalign does so without the need for brackets, wires, or bands. The Invisalign treatment relies on custom-fitted aligner trays that are uniquely molded to fit comfortably over your teeth. The trays are worn all day and night, except when you eat or clean your teeth. Using slight, consistent pressure, the trays gradually move your teeth into straighter positions.
About every two weeks, you will replace your current aligner tray with a new one. This process continues until you use all your trays. At this point, your Invisalign treatment is complete and your smile is straighter. After Invisalign, you will need to wear a specially made retainer at least at night to keep your teeth from shifting.
Like traditional braces, the treatment timeline for Invisalign varies significantly for every patient. While some may need two years to straighten their smiles, some may be able to complete treatment in as little as six months.
Advantages of Invisalign Orthodontics
What makes Invisalign orthodontics an attractive solution for many teens and adults? They appreciate the benefits of the Invisalign system, including:
- Being able to undergo orthodontics without anyone knowing
- Being able to brush and floss your teeth even while undergoing orthodontic treatment
- Avoiding the chafing and discomfort that some patients experience from traditional bracketed braces
- Having to visit the dentist less frequently than someone who requires new wires or brackets
